Record a sale

Ring up a customer at the POS — search, cart, payment, receipt. FEFO handles the batches for you.

The POS is built for speed and for patchy connections. The whole cart lives in the browser — no server round-trips until you take payment. Search is instant, FEFO picks the right batch automatically, and the receipt renders locally the moment the sale is confirmed.

Open the POS

Sidebar: Sales → POS. The screen has two panels:

  • Left — search and product grid.
  • Right — the cart, discount (if you're authorised), payment, and checkout.

Build the cart

  1. Type a product name — brand or generic. Search is fuzzy and instant. Only products with stock and an active status show up.
  2. Click a product to add one unit to the cart. Click again — or use +/− — to adjust quantity.
  3. Repeat for every product the customer is buying.

RxShelf checks stock as you type quantity — if you try to add more than you have, the app warns you. A final check runs at checkout too, so a sale can never oversell your shelf.

Attach a prescription (coming soon)

For prescription drugs, you'll be able to attach a photo of the prescription slip — upload from the device or capture on the spot with the camera. The image will be stored with the sale for later reference. This feature is on the way but isn't available yet.

Apply a discount (if authorised)

The discount field is hidden entirely unless you have permission. Enter the amount off in Naira — RxShelf only supports raw ₦ discounts on the whole cart (no percentages, no per-line). Total updates immediately.

Full detail: Apply a discount.

Take payment

  1. Click Checkout — a confirm dialog opens with the order summary and the total already calculated.
  2. Pick a payment method — cash, transfer, card, or other. One method per sale.
  3. Click Confirm Sale.

There's no separate amount-paid field — the sale is recorded at the total. Settle change with the customer from the till the same way you always did.

Receipt

The receipt renders as soon as the sale is confirmed. Click Print to send it to your printer. The receipt shows:

  • Your pharmacy name and address.
  • The sale reference (e.g. SAL-0000042) — sequential per pharmacy.
  • One line per product with quantity and unit price.
  • Discount and total.
  • Payment method.
  • Wholesale marker if the sale was a wholesale transaction.

Cart clears; POS is ready for the next sale.

If something goes wrong

  • Out of stock — the sale fails atomically. Nothing is written; the cart is preserved. Adjust the quantity or remove the line and retry.
  • You're not authorised — the sale is refused. If you're a dispenser and need to sell but can't, ask your owner to check your permissions.
  • Wrong sale entered — see Refund a sale. Voids are also available for very recent sales with no refunds against them (owner/manager only).
